1. The car broke down today. Like the thing that connects the right front wheel to the car snapped off. It made a terrible sound but we were safe and really close to a gas station. Although we dumbly showed up at the mechanic's house in the sticks with our busted van thinking that a cab could take us back into town. There are no cab companies in Tickfaw, Louisiana, so we had to endure a weird, awkward, and quiet ride into town from the mechanic. It was the longest 8 minutes of my life.

2. Being in a hotel in Hammond, Louisiana without a car significantly limits our options of things to do. So far our activities have included eating at Waffle House, watching Project Runway, and reading endlessly on the internet about conspiracy theories and the occult.
2a. God, the more I read crazy wingnut theories the more I want to know. It's like a never-ending novel except slightly more boring and unbelievable than most other works of fiction.

3. I have not been as broke as I am since I was 19. I'm trying to feel liberated and not panicked. We'll just see how well that works out.

4. I am excited and nervous about returning to Madison on Saturday. Excited: see friends and wanda and my house and have a bed and privacy and routine and work and not eat shit road food all day long. Nervous: losing my fun nomadic lifestyle and the scapegoat of traveling for consistently making slightly less-than-responsible decisions. And not traveling and meeting new people and playing shows and seeing beautiful varied America every day. I'm nervous about the impending and necessary mild depression I'll have to work through once I'm not in motion every day. And the fact that it's supposed to snow on Sunday.

5. Wah wah wah. I've had more fun than god in the last two months. What kind of a crybaby am I? I'll tell you what kind: the kind that wants to be a nomad. Sort of. Especially if it were practical to travel with cats. And for free.

Once in a while on the right body it looks alright, but for the most part it just makes your vagina look tall.

DRESSING LIKE YOU HAVE MILD DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES: **1/2
You know, like cardigans over shirts with peter pan collars and oversized clear plastic-framed glasses and floral jumpers and fanny packs and pilled stretch pants the like. My friend Electra told me that it was all the rage in the Pacific Northwest and lo and behold, the look was EVERYWHERE. I like that it shows you're not taking yourself seriously and are ready to party, and it's a great way to dress if you're not the prettiest girl in the world. But, you know.....you still look like you have mild developmental disabilities.

EARLY NINETIES REVIVALISM: **
I like neon colors and Bugle Boy shirts and Ce Ce Penniston as much as the next guy. Actually, probably more than the next guy. I'm just disappointed that this is the best we can come up with. After the 70's kitsch phenomenon of the early 90's there was the 80's kitsch phenomenon of the early 2000's and now this. It's all well and good it's just unimaginative. But a camp counselor told me that all fashion is cyclical, so maybe it's naive of me to expect more innovation from people around me. And I must say I'm looking forward to the return of vinyl clothing and platform sneakers circa 1997.

PLAYING BIG TYMERS AT DANCE PARTIES: ****
<lj-embed id="110" />
It always surprised me that these guys disappeared so quickly and I'm glad they're finally getting some of the attention they deserve(d).

Remember when I used to say "yeah brah" as a joke and now it's basically a part of my vocabulary?

Well, Nicole and I have been staying with two AWESOME people in Burbank. They work in wardrobe for the movies and they let us rifle through some of their collection. Included in my loot is the following:

Right now I think it's funny. But I've only been wearing it for like an hour and already I feel kind of attached to it. I know it's gross. But I sort of feel like it's fun gross. Am I delusional? The answer may be moot because I think this is already the New Shane.

Fair warning.

1. The song "Beautiful World" by Devo is particularly resonant for me right now. What a jamm I'll tell you. I'd post the youtube clip but I can't find it.
2. Heather Parisi has given me new reason for living. And if you click the link, she can do the same for you.
<lj-embed id="106" />
